Hi, Robin here 👋
I wanted to introduce this section personally as it's important to be completely open and transparent when it comes to privacy and personal data.
In general this website is a personal endeavour and I make every effort to ensure that as little information is collected during your visit, though — as with any website — there will inevitably be some data collection as a result of providing the services on this website to you.
Some personal data will be shared behind the scenes by you simply visiting the website, such as your IP address and browser User-Agent. Other data may be shared by you directly, such as your name and email address, for example when signing up for the newsletter.
Any data that you do share will only be used to provide this website's functional requirements (eg. caching) or related services (eg. newsletter). Your data will not be used for anything that is unrelated to this website's function or services.
Cookies are avoided wherever possible, only being used for base functionality in situations where they cannot be avoided (eg. tracking if you're logged in).
Some third-party services are used to provide you with the functional requirements and services of this website. For example, Cloudflare is used for caching and as such will have access to your IP address. These third-party services each have their own privacy policies that you can look at for more information on how they handle your data.
Read on to learn more about the specifics.

Lawful basis
Personal data used by this website falls under the following lawful basis:
Consent
In this case you would actively provide consent for me to process and use your personal data. For example you signed up for the newsletter, giving me consent to use your email address to send the newsletter.
You are able to opt out of consent-based usage of your data at any time (eg. clicking unsubscribe in a newsletter).
Legitimate interest
In this case your data will be processed for the legitimate interests of providing the core functionality and services of this website. For example, using your IP address for secure and efficient content delivery via a CDN.
Information gathering and usage
The following personal information is used by this website:
Newsletter
Your email (required) and name (not required) are used to provide a periodical newsletter, containing updates from this website and personal updates from myself. Newsletters will be sent to you until you decide to unsubscribe, which you can do at any point.
Usage by third-parties
Some third-party services will collect and store other information that is not listed here for the functional provision of those services, such as your IP address and browser User-Agent string.
Data retention
Your data will be stored for as long as required to provide the function and services of this website. You will have the option to expedite this process for some data by opting out.

Do Not Track
You should look at enabling Do Not Track in your browser if you are concerned about cookie privacy and being tracked online:
Third-party services
The following third-party services are used by this website for the functional requirements of this website and the services it provides:
Analytics
Comments
Content delivery and caching
Email distribution
Embedded content
Other third-party services may be used on an ad-hoc basis to provide features such as embedded media for blog posts.
Disclosure
Your personal data will not be disclosed to anyone unrelated to the functional requirements of this website and the services it provides.
The only time your personal data may be disclosed to someone other than the above is if there is an unavoidable legal obligation and request to do so.
Data location
A limited amount of data will be stored on this website's servers and database, located in the United Kingdom:
- Your email address (if provided for the newsletter)
- Your name (if provided for the newsletter)
Third-party services may store your data in locations around the world — required for the function of those services — which will be outlined in their dedicated privacy policies linked above.
Where possible, I have made a deliberate effort to select third-party services which keep data within the EU.
Opting out
You will be provided with a clear option to opt-out of non-essential data sharing if there are means to do so. For example, you will be able to opt out of email newsletters by following a link contained in each email or through a website.
You may also be able to opt out of some data collection by enabling Do Not Track in your browser. Details on how to do this can be found in the cookies section.
Children
This website is not targeted at children. If you are under the age to provide consent for the sharing of your personal data (eg. your email for the newsletter) then you should first seek consent from a parent or guardian.
If you are a parent who believes your child has provided their personal details and wish to have these details removed then you can use the opt-out features. Otherwise, contact the email at the bottom of this page.
Changes
This page will be updated as and when a material change occurs in the way personal data is used, the functionality of the website changes, or if third-party services are added or removed from the website.
